Most people only live on the middle floor of their home, set up with all mod cons, where they're warm and snug. They rarely go down into the lower rooms, where they could encounter gooseflesh-inducing ghosts. They rarely climb the tower where they could suffer vertigo from looking down or gazing into the distance. Of course, some people love to dwell in the cellar, because they feel better in the dark that makes them shiver than in the light where they must face their responsibilities. Others love to climb the tower for an unbroken view over a boundless vastness that is for ever unreachable. But the most unfortunate people are those who run endlessly back and forth between the cellar and the tower, forever on the stairs, giving up to ruin and dust the rooms that are actually meant to be lived in.

tg STAN speelt "De Eenzame Weg"

STAN’s new production is hard-hitting, bitter theatre.
De Standaard

STAN has discovered a magnificent strategy for delivering the script. At the centre is the lie and that lie is denied over and over again. Consequently, the characters beat about the bush, and it doesn’t even matter who plays who. De Eenzame Weg is theatre as it always should be: intellectually challenging, playful, witty and confrontational.
Gazet van Antwerpen

STAN extracts from Schnitzler and reduces the drama to the bare essentials: people who are ensnarled in lies, in impotence, in solitude. Though devoid of illusion, it is very fine theatre indeed.
Elsevier

Translation and approach do Schnitzler justice: here timeless people face timeless dilemmas. What really counts is the language; the dialogues sparkle. Apart from a comic detail here and there, the theme makes itself felt and it is both recognizable and obscure: the loneliness of everyone’s path through life.
de Volkskrant

Tg STAN makes individual sorrow interchangeable and personal choices arbitrary. "A life without pain is as poor as a life without happiness”, says Schnitzler. The actors unfailingly succeed - at times with fitting irony - in conveying that sense of deriving satisfaction and pleasure from setbacks in life, like death, illness and leave-taking. Tg STAN is blessed with such outstanding actors that whatever it does cannot fail to be enjoyable. With De Eenzame Weg tg STAN brings first-rate, unorthodox theatre.
