SECOND PUBLICITY BLURB

Spontaneous movement has vanished
from the neoliberal environment that society
has now (undeniably) become.
Five representatives of five established actors companies,
some no longer in existence,
deal with this anti-sloganesque falsification.
Five upper waiters pass through the limp wall, resonate in the brand new space
and serve up a cacophonous echolalia.
We start anew.

tg STAN, De KOE, Dood Paard en Maatschappij Discordia spelen "Onomatopee"

Onomatopee ( Onomatopoeia ) sets its sights high for the new theatre season. A specially formed coalition of actors brings comic political theatre, a cross between lunacy and seriousness. Here language serves to postpone the action; the dialogues form a complex whole, everyone has his hobby-horse. In the final scenes the language disintegrates completely: firstly in a cacophony of onomatopoeias, then in monologues which manipulate the language as a thing of value in its own right rather than as a means of communication. Onomotapee is a successful comedy, but it is also sound and thoroughly thought through. The abuse of language in our society is a serious theme.
De Standaard

Language is no more than a powerless convention, which leaves everything up in the air. Language provides no inherent certainties. Language is chaos which just happens to know how to package itself. In the hands of this occasional Belgo-Dutch collective, the theme produces a particularly wilful (and sometimes intangible) result. The nonchalance concealed behind the interminable chatter, the free and easy acting style and the sometimes chaotic digressions are mere show. Onomatopee ( Onomatopoeia ) is based on an amusing screenplay which provides scope for variation, but it also requires control and métier.
Tantalizing wink, Knack blogs, Thijs De Smet, 07/07/09

Language, sound and lunacy are dished up in five acts in such inimitable fashion that by the end you'd like a repeat order. How wonderful that these actors found each other! You are left wanting more - even if you cannot imagine they could possibly do it again. No, let's just be content with Onomatopee ( Onomatopoeia ). Very content....
Portions of lunacy that leave you wanting more, de Volkskrant, Karin Veraart, 14/09/07

The play Onomatopee ( Onomatopoeia ) by five actors from different and traditionally disparate companies can only be praised with exclamation marks.  Rarely in a play have nonsense rhyme and onomatopoeia, sophism, syllogism, banter, satire, Paul van Ostayen, Thomas Bernhard, stage theory, ill-fated monologue and words like ‘appetite’ and ‘general taste perception’ come together in such a marvellous form of melancholy.
NRC Handelsblad

No, this is not mischievous theatre. At the very least it is putting a cat among the pigeons of conventional theatre-making. Here we have five brilliant actors at work, and not for a second do they allow themselves to be caught out by their brilliance. Every attempt at virtuosity is trampled underfoot. You embrace these five actors with tears in your eyes and a smile from ear to ear. It's like nothing you have ever seen before. And after this evening you'll never seen it again. Tomorrow evening it might be totally different. Theatre reinvented - unruly evening after unruly evening. I could put up with that! Don't miss it!
Man versus matter, De Groene Amsterdammer, Loek Zonneveld, 28/09/07
