In the autumn of 2009 tg STAN will be celebrating its twentieth year. To mark this birthday Jolente De Keersmaeker, Sara De Roo, Damiaan De Schrijver and Frank Vercruyssen are inviting a large number of friends and kindred spirits to share the stage with them : actors, dancers, musicians, etcetera (*) — all people they like and who they have had dealings with over the years.
toestand (title in Dutch) / impromptu XL (title in French) has its origins in the series of shows tg STAN created with Maatschappij Discordia and Dito Dito under the name De Vere back in the mid-1990s. These were long theatre evenings in which short plays and extracts were staged after a minimal rehearsal period. The audience had no idea what they were going to see. In 2005 tg STAN used the same formula again during its residency at Théâtre de la Bastille in Paris, this time under the name Impromptu .

During the autumn of 2009 tg STAN organises no fewer than four of these 'impromptu' shows presented by
different casts in four cities to celebrate its twentieth year. In October the company starts of with taking over the Kaaitheater in Brussels and then the Monty in Antwerp for 24 hours. In November a 4 -hour version will take place at Théâtre Garonne in Toulouse and in December tg STAN will be on the stage of Théâtre de la Bastille in Paris for 12 hours.

toestand / impromptu XL will be a mix of old and new material, of scripts, short readings, acts, dance and music, of STAN repertoire and of the invited artists' own work. In-between following what is happening in the auditorium during toestand / impromptu XL , you can discover that food and drinks are an essential element in the construction of the marathons, or you can simply soak up the atmosphere. And of course it will all end in a party ...

The language of communication will be Dutch in Brussels and Antwerp, but English is also possible. In Paris and Toulouse the language medium will of course be French, but English is also possible. Music and dance are intelligible to all

The unique programme of each marathon will not be published in advance. This means that you will not know what will be performed and when it will be performed. There is only one exception : in Brussels and Antwerp there will be a children's moment by Marianne Loots, Frederik Meulyzer, Benjamin Verdonck, Sara De Roo, Jolente De Keersmaeker and Damiaan De Schrijver.
